[0051] The present invention discloses a composition of the -nickel multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite to be developed as supercapacitor, which includes -nickel hydroxide 70-85% MWCNTs, 10-20% Ketjen Black EC 600JD, 5-10% polyvinylidene difluoride, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, nickel foil and 1-3M potassium hydroxide. The invention also discloses a method of functionalization of the MWCNTs using acid mixture of concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid to increase oxygen functionalization. The method of preparation of -nickel multi-walled carbon nanotube by hydrothermal method is also disclosed. The invention further discloses the method of fabrication of working electrode, which exhibited high energy of 35-40 whkg-1, a specific capacitance value of 1250-1600 Fg-1 from cyclic voltametry, 1000-1200Fg-1 from chronopotentiometry at potential of 0.45-0.48V and 620-700Fg-1 by electrochemical AC impedance spectra. The supercapacitors are useful in manufacture of a device that is used as a button cell capacitor used in power filters and in monitoring GPS system. (FIGURE 1)
