Title: Design of optimised composite structure for transfer of concentrated load. Background: Skid landing gear is meant for safe landing of helicopter on different platforms (rough, water, snow) and houses various systems. Skid landing gear comprises of skid tubes, cross tubes and skid shoes. Skid tube is generally circular in cross section which touches ground first when helicopter lands on the ground. Many systems like Emergency floating system (EFS), SKI, Ground Handling Wheels (GHW) are attached to skid tube which demands transfer of concentrated loads. . Composite skid tube is light in weight and helps helicopter to carry more pay load. But this has a challenge of transferring high concentrated loads to attach equipments like ground handling wheels etc This reinforcement scheme helps to transfer high concentrated loads in composite structure with minimal weight addition. Description of Reinforcement: Composite skid tube is reinforced with aluminium, plates at the sections where external systems are meant to be attached with skid tube. Aluminium plates are bonded to foam and then composite layers of skid tube . are laid up and then riveted. Details of attachment is shown in Figure-1. Claims: Concept and design of using riveted metal plate for reinforcement of composite structure by which load path is changed and diffused, which increases the load bearing capacity many fold with minimal weight addition
