A process for the preparation of cyclopropane derivatives useful as chemical intermediates in the preparation of agricultural products, said process comprising a. preparing Grignard reagent by treating the compound of formula (I) with Magnesium turning in dry solvent under in an inert atmosphere at reflux temperature; b. preparing compound of formula (III) by treating the Grignard reagent with aldehyde of formula (II) in presence of dry solvent at reflux temperature to obtain the compound of formula (III); and c. preparing compound of formula (IV) by subjecting the compound of formula (III) to oxidation in presence of catalyst and solvent to obtain the compound of formula (III); Wherein X : -C1 (Chloro), Br (Bromo), I (1odo), etc and R1 is C1 to C5 straight or branched chain aliphatic alkyl group.
