A method of updating a podcast and a media player

A method of updating a podcast is disclosed. The method involves: an accessing step in which accessing means accesses at the client device episode information for the podcast; a first determining step in which first determining means determines at the client device, from the episode information, whether there is a new episode of the podcast; a second determining step in which second determining means determines at the client device whether the subscription at the client device for the podcast has been automatically designated as active or inactive; and an updating step in which, if it is determined from the episode information in said first determining step that there is a new episode of the podcast and it is determined in said second determining step that the subscription at the client device for the podcast is active, updating means updates the podcast at the client device with the new episode, wherein it has been automatically determined that the subscription at the client device for the podcast is active, if the episode download count for that podcast at the client device is more than a predetermined threshold, or if the number of days from initial episode download for that podcast at the client device is not more than a predetermined threshold.
