IMPLANTABLE CPW FED CLOVER SHAPED ANTENNA FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

A compact, clover shaped, Coplanar waveguide fed antenna of 109.2mm (14mm x 12mm x 0.65mm) size is designed. It is found to be effective at ISM band (2.45GHz) for which an experimental prototype was fabricated using a biocompatible alumina AI2O3 ceramic substrate. It was tested in a minced front leg of pork and human body phantom liquid and the simulated bandwidths are 180MHz and 210 MHz. The proposed research work aimed at investigating implantable antennas for 2.45 GHz ISM band applications. The analysis, design and characterization of implantable antenna, aside from their academic interest for the real life applications. This was done through a combination of numerical simulations and measurement campaigns. Due to superior permittivity and quality factor of the ceramic substrates, implantable antenna exhibit lower return loss, good VSWR, better impedance matching at 50Q, with CPW structure. Therefore, the proposed antenna is the suitable structure for ISM band frequency of 2.45 GHz for the field of biomedical engineering applications.
