Disclosed in an embodiment of the present invention are a handheld device and method for adjusting the position of the input area thereon. According to the embodiment of the present invention upon detection of a user performing a touch operation on a handheld device the handheld device determines whether the user uses the left hand or the right hand to perform the input operation according to the relative position relationship between the coordinates of the touch points sensed by the touch screen and then displays the currently displayed input area on the left side or the right side of the touch screen according to the determination result so as to facilitate single handed input of a user thus solving the problem of complex user operations in the prior art due to the fact that a user needs to click a specific touch area to adjust the position of an input area.
