Disclosed in the present invention are a method and device for controlling a prompt tone playing and a method and device for prompt tone playing. The method for controlling the prompt tone playing comprises: establishing a meeting by a media server wherein the members of the meeting include a calling device and a first playback resource channel of the media server; indicating the media server to add a second playback resource channel of the media server to the meeting; through the meeting indicating the first playback resource channel to play a coloring ring back tone to the calling device and indicating the second playback resource channel to play a prompt tone to the calling device. By the present invention the problem of the blocked service application caused by a user being unfamiliar with the coloring ring back tone key stroke copy service is solved thus it is convenient for the service to promote and the user experience is improved.
