USE OF DOXAZOSIN MESYLATE FOR TREATING CIRRHOSIS.

The invention refers to a novel pharmaceutical application of doxazosin mesylate for treating alcoholic and non-alcoholic cirrhosis. The oral dose used in the model is comparable to the dose recommended for humans. The results of the studied model show that the treatment with doxazosin mesylate is effective in replacing scar collagen type I into collagen type III. The biochemical data of hepatic function reflect a recovery of the normal metabolism of the cirrhotic liver. The hepatic histology after the treatment shows a regeneration of its normal architecture. 1.
