New therapeutic approaches for treating parkinsons disease

The present invention relates to compositions and methods for the treatment of Parkinsons disease and related disorders. More specifically, the present invention relates to novel combinatorial therapies of Parkinsons disease and related disorders targeting the alpha-synuclein aggregation network. In particular, the invention relates to compounds which, alone or in combination(s), can effectively protect neuronal cells from alpha-synuclein aggregates. The invention also relates to methods of producing a drug or a drug combination for treating Parkinsons disease and to methods of treating Parkinsons disease or a related disorder. More particularly, an object of the invention relates to a composition for use in the treatment of Parkinsonism, particularly Parkinsons disease, comprising one, preferably at least two drugs selected from acamprosate, baclofen, cinacalcet, mexiletine, sulfisoxazole and torasemide, or a salt, prodrug, derivative of any chemical purity, or sustained-release formulation thereof.
