METHOD OF PRODUCTION OF HIGH TEMPERATURE TOLERANT AGARICUS BUTTON MUSHROOM

The production of high temperature tolerant medicinal Agaricus button mushroom derived from protoplast fusion technique that can be grown under lowland hot conditions. Pairing of non-compatible Agaricus mushroom strain induced to form hybrid by protoplast isolation using lytic enzyme in osmotic stabilizer and subsequently fused by treatment of fusogen was done. The inoculated sorghum spawn with the fusant strain as seeding material was planted in Taiwan synthetic rice straw compost formulated with inorganic fertilizers. The appearance of primordial bodies wasinitiated by application of casing soil aftrer two weeks incubation in dark growing room. The importance of casing material for Agaricus mushroom development was recognized due to stimulation of fruit body formation and providing anchorage to developing mushrooms. Phytochemical analysis of the mushroom shows the presence of alkaloids, steroids and saponins which are antimicrobial substances that inhibit the growth of both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
