A tissue stimulation system comprising an implantable system (10) for electrical tissue stimulation, and an external programmer (16,18); the implantable system (10) comprising electrical tissue stimulation comprising: one or more electrical terminals (58) configured to be coupled to one or more stimulation cables (12); an output stimulation circuit (50) configured to emit electrical stimulation energy to one or more electrical terminals (58) in accordance with a defined waveform; and a control circuit (74) configured to modify the pulse form of the defined waveform in response to a user input by adjusting a time constant of the pulse form, in which the constant setting of time changes the characteristics of the slope of the pulse shape of the defined waveform, thereby changing the characteristics of the stimulation electrical energy sent to the one or more electrical terminals (58); and a telemetry circuit (86) capable of receiving instructions wirelessly from the programmer to modify the shape of the pulse; characterized in that the programmer comprises a user interface that includes an actuator for the user to increase or decrease the time constant.
