An implantable neurostimulation system (10), comprising: an implantable pulse generator (14) comprising a plurality of electrical terminals (58); and two or more percutaneous stimulation cables (12), each carrying a plurality of electrodes (26) arranged in a cluster, in which the electrical terminals (58) are configured to electrically engage the electrodes (26) of the cables stimulation (12); wherein the implantable pulse generator (14) further comprises: a set of stimulation circuits (50) configured to send electrical stimulation energy through any of the plurality of electrical terminals (58) in accordance with a waveform defined to any of the electrodes in the stimulation cables, so that electrical stimulation can occur between two or more activated electrodes; a set of monitoring circuits (70) configured to measure one or more electrical characteristics of the tissue; and a set of control circuits (74); characterized in that the control circuit set is configured to modify a pulse form of the defined waveform based on the one or more measured electrical characteristics, thereby changing the characteristics of the electrical stimulation energy sent between the two or more electrodes activated.
