Method for measuring the active inhibitor alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (A1PI) in a sample, comprising the steps of (a) binding to a solid phase elastase; (B) incubating the solid phase with the sample; (C) incubating the solid phase with a detection reagent that binds to A1PI; (D) determining the amount of detection reagent bound to the solid phase; and (e) determining the amount of active A1PI in the sample.
