A method of purification of crude 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D2, which comprises crystallizing 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D2, characterized in that the crystallization is in a solvent system free of methyl formate, the solvent comprising a mixture of organic solvent and water, the organic solvent being selected from the group consisting of acetone, acetonitrile, butanol, diethyl ketone, ethanol, ether, ethylene glycol, heptane, methanol, methyl ethyl ketone, propanol, tetrahydrofuran and combinations thereof.
