ASC as a marker of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

An in vitro method for differentiating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) asthma in a human subject comprising: a) determining the concentration of protein ASC in a sample of serum, plasma or whole blood, b) comparing the concentration of protein ASC determined in step (a) with a protein concentration of ASC, wherein a protein concentration greater than a reference concentration ASC is indicative of COPD.
