MULTIPLE ACCESS WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM USING TRANSMITTER-RECEIVERS SUPPORTED BY REMOTE SOFTWARE-CONFIGURED SIGNAL PROCESSING DEVICES

A multiple access wireless communication system uses transmitter-receiverssupported by remote signal processingdevices. The down link transmission receives signals from the internet, PSTN,or other networks and assigns the signal to one ofseveral shared, software configured, signal processing devices that processes,digitizes, and compresses, then forwards them to athin client transmitter. The transmitter decompresses the received signals,and transmits to remote users using the appropriatewireless protocol. An uplink transmission includes: an antenna for receivinganalog RF signals from remote users; an A/D converter;compressing the digital signals; and transporting the compressed digitalsignals to a remotely located, software configured,shared signal processing system. The shared remote signal processing systemdecompresses these signals; assigns the decompressedsignal to one of several shared, software configurable signal processingdevices that processes these signals and transmitsthe signals onwards via the internet, switched telephone, or other networks.
