The method comprises thesteps of issuing (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) a storagemeans comprising a digital certificate ofauthenticity including encrypted informationreflecting at least one characteristicunique to the physical object,checking (6, 7), whenever required, thevalidity of the digital certificate of authenticityby use of network computingmeans, the network computing meanscooperating with said storage means anda validating and/or a certifying authoritysuch as to output sensibly in real timethe status of validity of said digital certificateof authenticity, and modifyingthe status of validity of said digital certificateof authenticity, whenever required.
