This invention relates to the field of bolting and flowering time control insugar beet, specifically to methods aswell as nucleic acid molecules, chimeric constructs, and vectors forengineering bolting resistance in sugar beet by means ofaltering the expression of the Beta vulgaris homologues BvFT1 and BvFT2 of theFT gene. In particular, the present inventionprovides sugar beet plants having a phenotype of bolting resistance.
