SYSTEM FOR ASSESSING THE EFFICACY OF STORED RED BLOOD CELLS USING MICROVASCULAR NETWORKS

A system for assessing themicrovascular fitness of a sample of storedred blood cells. The system has a networkdevice having at least one network unit.The network unit has a single inlet and asingle outlet for the sample and a pluralityof microchannels. The plurality of microchannelsreceive the sample from thesingle inlet and drain the sample into thesingle outlet. The network unit includes anaspiration pressure means for providingmovement of liquid sample through the atleast one network unit. The system furtherincludes an analysis unit that receives thenetwork device therein. The analysis unitincludes a sensor for capturing measurementsrelated to the sample and a processorcapable of comparing the captured measurementsto measurements stored in adatabase of healthy red blood cells to determinethe microvascular fitness of the storedred blood cells.
