This invention relates to a fuel rod layout for a CANDU.TM.fuel bundle, the fuel bundle including a central rod disposedat a center thereof, and a plurality of fuel rods placedconcentrically around the central rod, wherein a ratio of astandard distance to a distance between a center of thecentral rod and a center of one of the fuel rods close to thecentral rod is 1:1.013441 - 1:1.026882, wherein the standarddistance is 14.88 mm. This fuel bundle is configured such thatthe intervals of the fuel rods disposed around the central rodof the fuel bundle are adjusted thus preventing dryout fromoccurring even without decreasing the generation capacity orincreasing the flow rate of a coolant.
