The invention provides an apparatus and method for assessing brain plasticitybymeasuring electrical brain biomarkers, for example, with a near real-timeanalysis ofelectrical brain biomarkers, where an increase or decrease in at least onebiomarker isindicative of a state of brain plasticity in response to a stimulus ortreatment. Brain plasticitycan be measured with or without an added stimuli, for example, to determinethe best time forlearning. Also provided is a method for treating a neurological disease ortrauma by applyingan electrical or drug stimulus to a patient, where the stimulus is increasedor decreaseddepending on the changes of electrical brain biomarker of the patient. Thistreatment canoccur in near real-time, so a course of treatment can be tailored immediatelyto a patient'sneeds.
