A dressing for a surgical drain, capable of absorbing exudate from the drain site. The dressing comprises an absorbent body adapted to be fitted around the drain at a site at which the drain emerges from a patient's body, wherein the absorbent body comprises a base of open-celled foam and a cover member bonded to the base so as to form a substantially enclosed compartment between the cover member and the base. The compartment contains a superabsorbent material, and the exudate at the wound site is able to flow via the base member to the compartment and to be absorbed by the superabsorbent material within the compartment.
