The present invention is a modified epoxy resin for a coating material, in which the modified epoxy resin is obtained by reacting specific proportions of the following: a polyisocyanate (B); and an amine-modified epoxy resin (A) that is obtained by reacting specific proportions of an epoxy compound which contains a bisphenol type epoxy resin (a1) and a specific poly(alkylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (a2), with one or more types of amine (a3) selected from among the group consisting of primary and secondary amines. This modified epoxy resin for a coating material maintains coating film performance, such as anti-corrosion properties, and can improve coating film flexibility and increase the solid content in a coating material.
