Disclosed in the present invention are a method and apparatus for controlling an advanced telecommunications computing architecture (ATCA) blade, wherein the ATCA blade comprises: a system arranged to process ATCA blade services, and a baseboard management controller (BMC); the method comprises: an electrically programmable logic device (EPLD) receives an indication signal arranged to indicate the operating mode to be executed by the system, wherein the operating modes comprise: a debugging mode and a normal mode, the debugging mode being an operation wherein the EPLD shields the BMC to send a control signal to the system and the normal mode being an operation wherein the EPLD restores the BMC to send a control signal to the system; and the system is controlled by the operating mode indicated by the EPLD on the basis of the indication signal. The present invention solves the problem in the prior art of the difficulty of identifying, in the case of blade failure, whether an error has occurred in the BMC or in the running of the system itself.
