The invention relates to a method for controlling a linear motor used as an actuator for a submersible plunger pump for oil recovery. The method consists in sequentially connecting stator windings, providing for the smooth movement of a rod and for changing the direction of motion of the rod by changing the order in which the windings are connected. The connection of the windings for the operating stroke of the rod begins in an initial position, spaced from a bottom dead centre at a distance which exceeds the coastdown of the rod during a return stroke. The bottom dead centre is determined in accordance with an increase in current in the motor when the rod comes into contact with a resilient lower stop. The operating stroke of the rod is set by the number of sequential connections of the stator windings, on the basis of the operating stroke of the plunger pump, and is limited by the number of sequential connections of the windings prior to reaching a top dead centre, in order to avoid the mechanical abutment of moving elements of the motor or plunger pump. The technical result consists in maximizing the performance of a pump installation for a given motor power, and in increasing the operational reliability thereof.
