The present invention relates to a method for detecting occurrence of an event on the basis of an image. A method for detecting occurrence of an event in regions of interest on the basis of an object movement time comprises the steps of: setting a critical movement time of an object between a plurality of regions of interest which are set at intervals with respect to an image; determining, according to a determined order with respect to the regions of interest, whether the object exists in the regions of interest and satisfies the critical movement time; and determining occurrence of the event when it is determined whether the object exists according to the order. The present invention allows the movement of the object in routes to be determined on the basis of whether the object is detected within the regions of interest. Further, with respect to the setting of the regions of interest, the regions are formed not to adjoin or overlap with each other, and thus it is possible to set the regions of interest more freely.
