The purpose of the present invention is to provide a breakdown diagnosis device and a breakdown diagnosis method that make it possible to diagnose breakdowns with high reliability even with a small number of sensors. Provided is a breakdown detection device for an electrical appliance constituting an electrical appliance system that comprises a plurality of pieces of electrical equipment, the breakdown detection device being provided with: a temperature detection unit that detects the temperature of the electrical appliance; a current detection unit that detects the drive current of the electrical appliance; a processing unit that performs frequency analysis of the drive current of the electrical appliance; and a breakdown determination unit that determines a breakdown mode for the electrical appliance on the basis of a detected temperature value for the electrical appliance, a current value for the drive current of the electrical appliance, and the results of frequency analysis of the drive current of the electrical appliance.
