The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Eriobotrya japonica leaves as an active ingredient for preventing or treating obesity, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, fatty liver, diabetes mellitus, or metabolic syndrome. According to various embodiments of the present invention, an extract of Eriobotrya japonica leaves can be usefully used for preventing or treating obesity, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, fatty liver, diabetes mellitus, or metabolic syndrome related to the same by inhibiting increase in the size of body fat by high fat diet, inhibiting increase in cholesterol and neutral fat in the blood and the liver, and controlling expression of obesity and atherosclerosis associated genes.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
