The present invention relates to a shopping cart which comprises a personal card reading unit which reads a personal card on which a disease of a user and a component name which is fatal for the disease are recorded to transmit the disease and the fatal component to a calculation processing unit of the shopping cart, allows the user to read product information from a product information reading unit of the shopping cart and then place the shopping product in the shopping cart, and notifies the user through a warning sound, light, or guide text if the product contains a material fatal for the disease of the user to protect the user from the product fatal for the disease, and a control method thereof. The shopping cart according to the present invention comprises: a personal card reading unit to read a personal identification number, a name of a disease of a person, a number of components fatal for the disease, and names of the components fatal for the disease from a personal card; a product information reading unit to read a product name, product components, and a product price recorded in a barcode of a product; and a cart terminal comprising a calculation processing unit to determine whether the names of the components fatal for the disease received from the personal card reading unit are included in the product components received from the product information reading unit, and output a warning sound to a speaker unit, or output a warning light-emitting signal to a light emitting unit, or output warning text to a display unit if the names of the components fatal for the disease are included in the product components received from the product information reading unit.
