The present invention relates to a system and a method to automatically detect a stain defect using morphological image processing and labeling. The system comprises: an image obtaining part obtaining an image of an object; a pre-processing part removing a lighting component from the image, obtained by the image obtaining part, using morphological image processing; an image processing port including a histogram smoothing part reforming the image by expanding a histogram of the image, of which lighting component is removed by the pre-processing part, to an entire gray level through histogram-smoothing after obtaining the histogram of the image; and an image analyzing part including a stain candidate generating part, forming a stain candidate area by applying a Gabor filter to the image converted by the image processing part, and a stain detecting part detecting a stain using labeling in the stain candidate area formed by the stain candidate generating part. As such, the system and method are capable of having high detectability and reliability.
