The present invention relates to an apparatus for preventing a gas leakage accident and a control method thereof. The apparatus for preventing a gas leakage accident and the control method thereof comprises: a detecting unit installed in an installation space in which inflammable gas equipment is installed and detecting whether gas has leaked or not; an expanding member expanding to limit the maximum of accumulated gas in the installation space when gas is leaked; a gas supplying unit expanding the expanding member by supplying expansion gas compressed and stored in the expanding member to the expanding member; and a control unit determining whether the gas has leaked or not based on a detection signal of the detecting unit and controlling the operation of the gas supplying unit. The apparatus for preventing a gas leakage accident can limit the space in which inflammable gas is able to be accumulated in the installation space by expanding the expanding member by supplying inactive gas to the expanding member when gas is leaked.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
