The present invention relates to a composition for skin-whitening or anti-inflammatory purpose comprising extracts or fractions of Psidium guajava L., and more specifically, of Psidium guajava L. leaves. The composition of the present invention is effective not only for suppressing the ion channel of Orai-1, which plays an important role in skin-darkening induced by melanogenesis caused by exposure to sunlight, but also for reducing tyrosinase activation. Moreover, Orai-1 is a critical calcium ion channel for immune activation, and thus the successful suppression of Orai-1 can alleviate various inflammatory diseases. Leaves of Psidium guajava L. are sufficiently free of cytotoxicity to be currently used for human consumption, and therefore can be used advantageously to treat and prevent skin damage due to UV-rays and inflammatory/immune diseases such as bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
