According to the present invention, disclosed are a device and a method for calculating the stability margin of an on-line special protection system of a power generator. The device for calculating a stability margin according to the present invention comprises: a data obtaining part for obtaining multiple system data including the whole information on a power system; a stability analyzing part for conducting the analysis of transient stability by applying a contingency scenario, which has already been applied to a special protection system of a power generator in a corresponding region of interest, based on the obtained system data; a power generation handling part for increasing or reducing power generation depending on the result of conducting the analysis of transient stability; and a stability calculating part for calculating the stability margin of the special protection system in the corresponding region of interest by setting the power generation of connected power generators except for the increased power generation of an omitted power generator as the stability margin.
