The present invention relates to a method to measure a self-load of an elevator car and a counterweight of an elevator by using a noise/vibration gauge, to measure the self-load of an elevator based on the vibration frequency by measuring the vibration frequency of a hoist rope of an elevator with a noise/vibration gauge, instead of directly measuring the load of an elevator with a load cell to provide convenience and safety in installation or measurement of a device at work. According to the present invention, the method to measure the self-load of an elevator car (11) and a counterweight (12) interconnected by multiple hoist ropes (13) comprises the following steps: (ST100) mounting a noise/vibration gauge (30) in one of the hoist ropes (13); (ST200) forcibly vibrating the hoist rope (13) equipped with the noise/vibration gauge (30) to measure the vibration frequency (f_n); (ST300) using the vibration frequency (f_n) measured by the noise/vibration gauge (30) to calculate the tension (T) of the hoist rope (13); and (ST400) multiplying the tension of the hoist rope (13) by the number (R) of all the hoist ropes (13) to calculate a self-load (M) of the elevator car (11) or counterweight (12).;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
