The present invention relates to a biomass pre-treatment method. More specifically, the present invention relates to an eco-friendly composition for pre-treating biomass prior to hydrolysis, which contains 1-hydroperoxy ethane-1,1-diol and can be applied to biomass derived from woody plants in common such as pine trees and oak trees as well as herbal biomass such as rice straws, silver grass, and reeds. The present invention further relates to a biomass pre-treatment method using the composition and a sugar product derived from the biomass pre-treated by the biomass pre-treatment method.
