According to one embodiment of the present invention, an image monitoring method executed in an image monitoring apparatus connected to a plurality of high resolution cameras comprises the following steps: receiving a high resolution camera image from a plurality of high resolution cameras; using the high resolution camera image to generate and display a low resolution panoramic image based on a low resolution panoramic image generation table; and using an ultrahigh resolution panoramic image generation table to generate and display a high resolution digital panning/zooming/tilting (PZT) image corresponding to a fixed area when a specific position or a specific moving subject is fixed in the low resolution panoramic image. To display and analyze a panoramic image, a low resolution panoramic image is generated and used instead of generating an ultrahigh resolution panoramic image. To display an ultrahigh resolution image of a target of interest, only an image (high resolution digital PZT image) corresponding to an area of the target of interest is generated and used instead of generating the whole ultrahigh resolution panoramic image. Thus, an efficient high resolution panoramic image monitoring system can be constructed.
