One embodiment of the present invention relates to a portable terminal capable of controlling functions by using a home button, and the technical objective to be solved is to control a part of programs and functions by using a home button. To this end, one embodiment of the present invention is a method to control functions of a smartphone by using a home button and control at least one program stored in the smartphone by a user pattern inputted through the home button of the smartphone. The method comprises: a first step of executing an application to control a home button installed in a smartphone; a second step of inputting first pattern information to the home button by the user while a screen of the smartphone is opened; and a third step of executing a program predetermined to correspond to the first pattern information inputted to the home button.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
