In response to the first component and the link partner component of the first component performing equalization, the first component communicates the first data set with the link partner component. The first component includes at least one receiver for receiving the first set of equalization data. The first component is coupled to the receiver and includes a coefficient storage for storing a first set of equalization data. Also provided is a coefficient logic coupled to the coefficient storage device for generating a first set of coefficients based on the first set of equalization data. The first component transmits the first set of coefficients to the link partner component.
