Disclosed are a method and a system for forming a social group based on the location. According to an aspect of the present invention, the method for forming a social group between one or more mobile terminals comprises the following processes of: receiving wireless environmental information from a plurality of mobile terminals; and forming one or more social groups based on the similarity between the wireless environmental information of each mobile terminal. In addition, the wireless environmental information is information which is defined by the characteristics of near field wireless communications signals received from the current location by a second mobile terminal, and includes at least some of identification information for identifying each of the near field wireless communications signals (hereinafter, referred to as receiving identification information) and distance indicators having a correlation with an object that generated each of the near field wireless communications signals.
