Disclosed are an apparel purchasing system and method using a virtual closet of each user of a social network service (SNS), which allow users to easily obtain information regarding apparel of other users or fashionista discovered on the SNS and purchase the same. The apparel purchasing system comprises a user terminal storing a virtual item of apparel owned by a user in a user closet of an SNS and remotely controlling the apparel to be posted on the SNS, checking a user closet of a different user or a fashionista posted on the SNS, and purchasing the corresponding apparel through the virtual item stored in the closet of the different user or the fashionista; an SNS server storing the virtual item in the user closet by remote controlling performed by the user, having user closets for storing virtual items owned by each user, and posting the user closets on the SNS; and an online shopping mall server providing a purchase Web page of a corresponding apparel when the user terminal accesses through the virtual item, and purchasing the corresponding apparel according to a purchase request from the user terminal. When the user terminal completes purchasing of the apparel, the online shopping mall server provides a virtual item of the purchased apparel to the user terminal so that the user terminal can store the virtual item of the purchased apparel in the user closet of the user.
