METHOD OF CALCULATING COST FOR DYNAMIC ROUTING IN SATELLITE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Disclosed is a method for calculating a path cost for dynamic routing in a satellite communications system. The present invention relates to a method for calculating a satellite communications path cost for operating a dynamic routing protocol, and more particularly, is configured to calculate and derive a cost which reflects the characteristics of satellite communications paths by using information about resource availability and assignment information in a demand assigned multiple access (DAMA) satellite communications network. The present invention is realized in the satellite communications system by a resource assignment server of a satellite network control station, a satellite station modem, and a station router, each of which periodically broadcasts information about resource availability, receives the information and transports the information to the station router, and receives the information and calculates a path cost based on the information, respectively. According to the aforementioned method of calculating a path cost for dynamic routing in a network which includes the satellite communications network, a dynamic routing protocol such as open shortest path first (OSPF) or routing information protocol (RIP), can be operated in a network which includes the satellite communications network. Also, the present invention is capable of improving reliability of optimal path selection by deriving cost values of satellite communications paths which are optimized by routing protocol.
