The present invention relates to a system and a method to measure viewing zone characteristics of an autostereoscopic three dimensional image display device which efficiently determines a precise optimum viewing distance (OVD) and a position error range of view point images formed from different areas of a three dimensional display. The system to measure the viewing zone characteristics of the autostereoscopic three dimensional image display device comprises: at least one image sensor installed in front of an image display device which displays the autostereoscopic three dimensional image, and measures a brightness distribution characteristics for the view point images in a depth direction (a Z direction) formed in at least two local areas previously designated in a horizontal direction (an X direction) of the image display device; and a determination unit to analyze the brightness distribution characteristics on an X-Y plane measured by the image sensor to determine a position of the image sensor corresponding to the depth direction (the Z direction) having a minimum deviation in the horizontal direction (the X direction) of a center position of a brightness distribution of light generated from the identical view point image of each local area as an optimum viewing distance.
