The present invention relates to an apparatus for adaptively improving the brightness of a night image by using the generation and selection of a brightness conversion curve, which can adaptively improve the brightness of a dark image with low visibility, such as a night image, in real time according to the characteristics of the image to provide the image with the improved visibility. The apparatus of the present invention comprises: a curve generation unit for generating and storing a plurality of brightness conversion curves; a curve selection unit for selecting the brightness conversion curve suitable for an input image by using the brightness distribution of the input image and the slope information of the brightness conversion curves; a brightness conversion processing unit for outputting the image with improved brightness by applying, to the input image, the brightness conversion curve corresponding to a brightness conversion curve selection number selected by the curve selection unit; and a post-processing unit for finally outputting the image with improved visibility by performing post-processing on the image of which the brightness is improved by the brightness conversion processing unit.
