1. A method of producing a composite oxide of cerium oxide - zirconium oxide - alumina, comprising: (a) reacting a cerium (IV) compound and a zirconium (IV) compound with a suspension of aluminum oxide at a temperature of more than 40 ° C to obtain a reaction suspension; (b) contacting the reaction suspension with a precipitating agent to deposit insoluble cerium and zirconium compounds on the surface of aluminum oxide and forming particles of cerium-zirconium-aluminum oxide; and (c) calcining cerium-zirconium-alumina particles to obtain a composite oxide cerium oxide-zirconium oxide-alumina. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the temperature is in the range of 60-100 ° C. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the cerium (IV) compound is selected from the group consisting of cerium nitrates, cerium ammonium nitrates, cerium sulfates, cerium ammonium sulfates, cerium alkoxides and mixtures thereof. The method of claim 1, wherein the zirconium (IV) compound is selected from the group consisting of zirconium carboxylates, zirconium halides, zirconium oxyhalides, zirconium carbonates, zirconium nitrates, zirconium oxynitrates, zirconium sulfates, and mixtures thereof. The method of claim 1, wherein the alumina has an average particle size of more than 1 micron. A method according to claim 1, wherein the alumina is alumina stabilized by a rare earth or alkaline earth element. A method according to claim 6, wherein the alumina stabilized by a rare earth or alkaline earth element comprises 0.1-20 wt.% Of a rare earth or alkaline earth metal.
