A method of controlling the size distribution formed during the preparation of an aqueous polymer dispersion of polymer particles, comprising: obtaining an aqueous polysaccharide solution that contains- (a) from 10 to 40% (mass) of a polysaccharide containing a free hydroxyl group, such as starch, - polymerization in a polysaccharide solution in the presence of a water-soluble redox system for crosslinking by grafting; - (b) from 30 to 60% (mass) of at least one optionally substituted styrene, - (c) from 60 to 30% ( mass.) in at least one C1-C4 alkyl (meth) acrylate, - (d) from 0 to 10% (mass) of other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomers, where the sum of (q) + (b) + (c) + (d) is 100 %, characterized in that they control the size distribution of the obtained polymer particles by adjusting the viscosity of the polysaccharide solution before polymerization, bringing it to a level of 20 MPa · s, as measured at 23 ° C using a Brookfield LVDV viscometer with spindle 18 at 60 rpm. 2.
