A process for preparing a multicomponent fiber, comprising mixing the polylactic acid polymer additive that increases the impact strength modifier and a polyepoxide to form a thermoplastic composition and the thermoplastic composition followed by extrusion through a die to form a fiber wherein the fiber comprises an inner component surrounded by the shell component, and wherein the polylactic acid is about 50% by weight or more based on the polymer content in the inner component and the polymer additive that increases the impact strength is approximately 50 wt% or more based on the polymer content in the shell komponente.2. The method of claim 1, wherein the polymeric additive that increases the impact strength is from about 90 to 100 wt.% Of the polymer content in the shell komponente.3.
