FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a composite material consisting of a matrix of aluminium oxide and zirconium oxide dispersed therein, and can be used to make artificial limbs. The composite material contains at least 65 vol % aluminium oxide as a first phase, 10-35 vol % zirconium oxide as a second phase and an additional dispersoid phase. The predominant part of zirconium oxide, with respect to total content of zirconium oxide, is in the form of a tetragonal phase, wherein the zirconium oxide has an average particle size of 0.1-0.5 mcm. The dispersoid phase contains strontium aluminate plates as dispersoids, which, due to their crystalline structure, facilitate shearing deformations at the microscopic level. The content of chemical stabilisers in said material is for Y2O3≤1.5 mol %, for CeO2≤3 mol %, for MgO≤3 mol % and for CaO≤3 mol % in each case with respect to the content of zirconium oxide.;EFFECT: reduced susceptibility of the material to hydrothermal ageing, high crack-resistance and strength.;19 cl, 5 ex, 5 dwg
