FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention can be used when developing lidar systems for remote monitoring of a dispersed composition of aerosol clouds of persistent toxic chemicals during off-design accidents at chemical weapons storage and destruction sites and at other chemically hazardous facilities. The method comprises probing the polydisperse aerosol cloud of toxic chemicals with multi-frequency laser radiation in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared range and detecting the intensity of elastic aerosol backscattering signals. The optical constants (refraction index and absorption factor) of the toxic chemicals are measured during storage thereof. Spectral measurement results are used to create the database of characteristics of the aerosol scattering of the toxic chemicals based on multi-parameter series, which include the relative characteristics of aerosol backscattering using the instrument-measured values of the imaginary and real parts of the complex refraction index of the toxic chemicals, as well as the median diameter and dispersion of the distribution of the logarithmic-normal law of distribution of the aerosol of the toxic chemicals on the dispersion composition. The dispersion composition of the aerosol of toxic chemicals is monitored within the pattern recognition theory based on the minimum value of the proximity measure of the aerosol scattering signals, obtained in the experiment using remote means, and data of the multi-parameter series in the database of the location means.;EFFECT: remote monitoring of dimensions of the finely dispersed aerosols of persistent toxic chemicals with the logarithmic-normal law of distribution of particles on the dispersion composition for estimating the extent and consequences of accidental release of toxic chemicals at chemical weapons destruction facilities.;3 tbl
