The invention relates to a cylinder head (7) for a diesel engine (1) with direct injection, in particular for a motor vehicle. The cylinder head (7) comprises a main body (8) which has at least one opening (9) for an injection valve (11) and at least one receiving area (10) for a glow plug (13). According to the invention, a receptacle (10) arranged insert (14) is arranged, which is provided for at least partially receiving the glow plug (13). In this case, the insert (14) relative to the base body (8) is relatively displaceable, that at least partially by the body (8) delimitable volume of a combustion chamber (12) of the diesel engine (1) and thus its compression ratio (V1) is variable. Furthermore, the invention is directed to a diesel engine (1) and an appropriately equipped vehicle along with a method for operating such a diesel engine (1).
