The present invention relates to a method for operating one up converter (2), the one in series with a diode (d) switched inductor (l) and a capacitor (c) and an actuatable first switch (s1), wherein the first switch (s1) in the normal operation is driven in a pulse-width-modulated manner. It is provided that the first switch (s1) is operated in a test mode, to be a resonant circuit of the inductance (l) and the capacitor (c), where the resulting frequency (f) of the resonant circuit is detected and as a function of the frequency (f) a value of the inductance (l) or of the capacitor (c) is determined, and that the pulse width modulation in the normal operation as a function of the detected value is predetermined.
